Laurel Lake Encore Chorale to perform Spring Concert on June 2

May 24, 2010The Laurel Lake Encore Chorale, featuring 50 singers age 55 and older from Hudson, Cuyahoga Falls, Fairlawn, Northfield, Stow, Twinsburg and other neighboring cities, will present its Spring Concert on Wednesday, June 2 at 7 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson.

Featured will be the music of American composers including "Ching A Ring Chaw" by Aaron Copland, "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor" and "Alexander's Ragtime Band" by Irving Berlin, "What A Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" by Thomas Dorsey, and American folk songs "Shenandoah" and "Deep River."  The program will conclude with a musical salute to "The Armed Forces: The Pride of America," in honor of Memorial Day.

Rehearsals for the Encore 2010 Holiday season will start Tuesday, September 7 at 3 p.m. at Laurel Lake. All singers age 55 or older are invited to participate. This program is offered free to the public. No auditions are required.

The Laurel Lake Encore Chorale, under the direction of Donna Anderson, rehearses weekly and performs several concerts each year. The Chorale was the first national affiliate of Encore Creativity for Older Adults  www.encorecreativity.org , established in 2007 to provide an excellent artistic environment for older adults, 55 and over, regardless of experience or ability, who seek performance opportunities under a professional artist. Today, Encore choral and dance programs are offered at multiple locations in the Washington D.C./Baltimore area, including a chorale at the Smithsonian Institution. Encore’s combined chorales (500 singers) have performed concerts at The Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum, and the White House Conference on Aging. Each year, Encore conducts summer "sleepaway" choral camps for older adults at the famed Chautauqua Institution, New York, and at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
