Classical Pianist Shuann Chai to perform at Laurel Lake

On Friday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m. in the Laurel Lake Community Room, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson, classical pianist Shuann Chai will offer a free concert.  The performance is part of "The Arts at Laurel Lake," a free series to support the arts in Northeast Ohio.

Ms. Chai will perform Schubert’s Variations in F major, D. 156 and Allegretto and Allegro, D. 946; Beethoven’s "Appassionata" Sonata in F minor, op. 57; Czerny’s La Ricordanza, op. 33; and Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 8.

About the Performer:  Shuann Chai's recent performances include recitals at St. Cecilia's Hall of Edinburgh (Scotland, UK), the Holberg Festival (Norway), and the Young Masters Performance Series in The Hague (Holland). Last season, her concert for the Seaton Music Society (England) was noted as "a fascinating occasion... Miss Chai is an extremely talented pianist...eloquent and elegant (The Devon Herald)." Upcoming concerts include programs for the Klanken Festival for Contemporary Music in Maastricht (NL) and a return to the Bloomington Early Music Festival (USA) where she will perform Beethoven's First Piano Concerto. She is also a founding member of the Amsterdam-based Myrten Ensemble, which is presenting a series of chamber music concerts throughout the Netherlands in celebration of the bicentennial anniversaries of Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann during the 2009-2010 season.

Ms. Chai completed undergraduate degrees in Piano and Biology at Oberlin College. After choosing music over medical school, she continued her studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston where she earned a Master's in Music. Her teachers have included Jack Radunsky, Norma Fisher, Bart van Oort, and David Breitman, and she has worked extensively with Viennese pianist Claus-Christian Schuster of the Altenberg Trio and Malcolm Bilson, professor emeritus at Cornell University.
