Author, historian to share rich history of Ravenna Arsenal
at Laurel Lake on Saturday, March 12

March 12, 2010 Soon, this massive complex will be transformed into a new training facility for 2,000 soldiers. But back in World War II, the Ravenna Army Ammunition Plant employed 15,000 people and built 36 million bombs and 420 million other munitions.

On Saturday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at Laurel Lake, retired biology teacher and amateur historian Ralph Pfingsten will talk about his new book, "The History of the Ravenna Arsenal."  Pfingsten's book covers the history of the arsenal in detail, from its construction in 1940 and its service to our country to its present uses.  The talk will be accompanied by slides of historic photos, maps and drawings.

"The History of the Ravenna Arsenal" is published by the Northern Ohio Railway Museum, where Pfingsten has volunteered for over 20 years. All proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the museum.  Books will be available for sale at the talk, and also at the Learned Owl Book Shop.  For more information, contact The Learned Owl at 330-653-2252.
