World comes to Laurel Lake with October 2nd
Fair Trade Boutique
September 14, 2009 -- Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Ohio will host its 4th Annual Fair Trade Boutique on Friday, October 2 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Community Room at 200 Laurel Lake Drive. A wide variety of eco-friendly, fairly traded jewelry, artwork, home décor, toys and other handmade items from artisans and farmers living in developing countries will be available for purchase.
Fair trade is an international movement to build trading relationships built on respect and to alleviate poverty. Laurel Lake has invited six regional organizations representing hundreds of artisan groups in more that 30 countries throughout Africa, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Each partner group is helping artisans and farmers gain access to markets and maintain steady work at a fair wage to provide for their families, leading to a better quality of life.
This year’s partner groups include Heartbeats, the Interfaith Council for Peace in the Middle East, the Interreligious Task Force, Notre Dame India & Africa Mission, Ten Thousand Villages, and Janet Rhodes Brings You Fair Trade, a boutique that recently opened in Hudson.
