Make Yourself Heart Attack Proof
Retired Cleveland Clinic heart
surgeon, researcher and author
Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr. espouses noninvasive cure for heart disease
September
14, 2009 -- Over 61 million Americans live with cardiovascular disease,
which causes over 40% of all deaths.
But, as Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., a retired Cleveland Clinic surgeon, researcher and author explains, heart disease can be prevented, reversed, and even abolished. Dr. Esselstyn will speak at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson on Saturday, October 3 at 2 p.m. The program is free and open to the public.
Dr. Esselstyn argues in his 2007 book, "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease," that conventional cardiology has failed patients by developing treatments that focus only on the symptoms of heart disease, not the cause. Relying on pills and surgical procedures despite their side effects and risks "does nothing to prevent disease in the next unsuspecting victim." This is particularly frustrating given that research studies have already suggested an obvious culprit. The typical American diet, Esselstyn believes, is responsible for heart disease and many Western cancers, which are rarely seen in parts of the world where people eat a different diet.
Based on the groundbreaking results of his 20-year nutritional study—the longest study of its kind ever conducted—Dr. Esselstyn argues that we can end the heart disease epidemic in this country forever by changing what we eat. A plant-based, oil-free diet can not only prevent and stop the progression of heart disease, but also reverse its effects.
Dr. Esselstyn's research indicates the reperfusion of blood and oxygen to an ailing heart may occur as early as 3-6 weeks in patients who follow his recommndations. Frequently, the need for angioplasty, stenting or bypass surgery can be avoided.
