Case Western Reserve University offers "Team of Rivals:
The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" at Laurel Lake

December 14, 2009 -- Case Western Reserve University will offer a Winter course, "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln," beginning Monday, January 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson. The instructor for the eight week course is CWRU Off-Campus Studies faculty member Ellen Erzen.

Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln is "one of the most compulsively readable books of history to come along." Abraham Lincoln not only defeated his nationally known and highly regarded political rivals, but in a time of crisis, welcomed them to significant positions in his cabinet, marshaling their talents to preserve the Union. Goodwin’s incisive book weaves scores of contemporary accounts into a fluid, enthralling narrative. This fascinating course will enrich students' knowledge of that crucial time in our nation’s history and lead to a better understanding of our current situation.

The Learned Owl Book Store (330-653-2252) in Hudson is offering a 10% discount on the text for those taking the Laurel Lake class. The cost for the course is $60 payable by check to CWRU. To register for the class, call Margaret Anderson at 330-528-6295.
